About Us
Home
Bijli was born out of a shared dream to read and elevate speculative fiction by Indian writers. From folklore to the many tales of our childhood, India has a rich storytelling tradition that asks what the world would look like if only animals could speak, humans could shapeshift and fly, or mountains could move. Speculative fiction pushes the boundaries of what can be real, but we felt that many of these imaginative worlds didn't have the spotlight they deserve. Through this journal, we hope to see just how wild and creative you can be! And ultimately, we hope this can act as a springboard for writers, giving them an opportunity to publish and grow.
As for us, we’re just a couple of passionate literary enthusiasts who met
at Emerson College, Boston. We want to use what we learnt to create a space
for Indian writers, stories, and voices.

Niharika
Niharika Prabhakar is a freelance editor with an MA in Publishing and Writing from Emerson College, where she served as a Senior Fiction Reader at Redivider. She was previously a children's book editor with Dorling Kindersley (Penguin Random House).
Currently, she collaborates with major publishing houses and private clients on editing and proofreading projects. She also spends an ungodly amount of time playing cozy video games and watching too much Parks and Recreation.
Anusha
Anusha Halwai is a filmmaker and visual artist brought up in India, based in LA. She holds a BFA degree in Visual and Media Arts Production from Emerson College.
Her work ranges from narrative short films to illustrations, photography, and 2D Animation that highlight themes of tender human relationships and the race between humans and wildlife. She loves everything about art and the people who spend their life making it.
Her visual work has been represented in festivals such as Boston Film Festival, Pebbles Underground Film Festival, Flicker’s Rhode Island Film Festival, and MONAD Exhibition.
Arohi
Arohi Purnaye is a writer from Pune, India with an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College. Her stories explore the big and small questions of everyday life, right from Boston’s love-hate relationship with the ‘T’ to what our identities hold us accountable to.
She served as the Print Director and Managing Editor at Redivider and was a Fiction Screener for Ploughshares. Currently, she teaches at Emerson as a First Year Writing Instructor.
